Default engine replacement price

I'm sorry if there is a thread addressing this issue but if there was i haven't been able to find it. I would like to know how much it would cost (relatively) to replace an engine in a '98 Vanden Plas. if you can give me some help here I would really appreciate it. I'm trying to get this car running before I go back to University.

Well, first welcome!

If you drive into a dealer the price is going to be about $13k

With an Indy and an used engine that is going to be about $5K

Please let us know what brought us to to this point.

Long story short, my girlfriend was using the car for some time and called me saying the car broke down. After i asked what happened she said she heard a loud pop come from the engine compartment and the car started missing and she parked it. When I got there i saw a stream of oil right up to the point where the car was stopped. had the car sent home. I let it cool and tried to see what happened, i felt around couldn't find anything until i spotted a triangular piece of metal and the corresponding hole on the block. so thats what landed me here. so 5k.

so is that 5k with the engine provided by the indy? or with an engine brought in.
and thanks for the quick reply.

The engiones are about 3 bills on e-bay, and 2 bills will install it, I would think. Its a pretty good size DIY, but possible.

You should be able to find an engine for $2k to $4k depending on the miles and history. About $1500 to $2000 to install.

Throw a rod ?. . . an old question from my youth that doesn't happen much anymore.
