Exhaust system upgrade - what would do?
That is what I had thought... But then again, many probably have their exhausts done for them and sell the rests on... I can get an entire exhaust system for €99 so I'll cut up what I have
I can't weld (yet). It still has the 2" diameter, as the 4.0l uses the same size as my 3.2l... If I wenn up 0.5" I'd probably lose power...I can tell more when I have it here
Sounds good, I'm curious about the overall length, and the distance between pipes at the front and rear. Figure that way I can get someone to make something up that I can get in place without having to run around too much (my schedule SUCKS)
Member "Muti" did replace the middle large muffler with an X pipe, and then also took out the 2 mufflers just in front of the back axle, and he put a link up here somewhere to a Youtube video of it idling.
I like it and am just waiting for the right time to do the same to mine.

X-pipe to replace center resonator, no mid mufflers, and rear mufflers is my personal favorite setup and i've done 'em all. Here's my 2.25'' system with mid x-pipe and rear 10415 magnaflow mufflers
. Here it is with the same setup but larger 12225 Magnaflow mufflers and larger tips

Does it drone at speed in the cabin?
That would be my biggest concern....

That is what my VDP did when it was in RP mode... But now you could (shouldn't) rev it up to 6800 RPM in park or neutral. It doesn't shift out of 1st gear (in sport mode) until 6700 RPM. 3000 seems REALLY low?
As far as driving, even when in sport mode, it will shift at 6000. I believe this is a difference between the SC and NA motors. The NA will shift at 6500+, however the SC will shift at 6000...even when in sport mode.
So there may be a difference in where the rev limiter is set at when in park/neutral as well. I wonder if anyone else with an XJR has this same issue...?
When I am in park or neutral, I can only rev to 3000 before hitting fuel cut. I found this out when I was trying to hear my exhaust when I first had it done. You could keep your foot down on the gas, and it will just bounce off of the rev limiter which is at 3000.

Yeah, my car did the same thing but when it was in RP mode.. It would hit a rev limiter at 3k RP and just bounce off that... Is it possible that there is something going on causing it to go into RP mode, or something like that without alerting the idiot lights?
I'm not sure. I've had my buddy hook his $7000 OBD scanner up to it and I've never returned any fault codes or pending codes. And that system monitors everything you can think of. Also, not sure if it is something to do with mine being a 98, before some components were changed or what.

Minimal drone at any speed with the small mufflers and no drone with the larger MF mufflers. I also used high quality gauge piping no thin gauge crap and magnaflow mufflers which helps as well with drone. From what i understand XJR's aren't as prone to the drone as XJ8's either. Just a warning, the setup with the smaller MFs barely will NOT pass inspection most places in the world, so unless you can make up a system to swap out for inspection or know a guy, don't go that route. It is aggresive as hell and i love it. My car will only rev to 3000k at a stand still no matter what i do on the other note
Electric exhaust cut outs. Best mod I have done to any car ever, period.
Cost is modest too.
The flexibility to go from luxury car quiet to race car awesome and everything in between at the touch of a switch.

No idea if it is because Europeans are treated like intelligent people and the Yanks aren't? I mean, my garage door has a warning for Amerians...: "Do not drive through door untill fully open"
The reason that a supercharged engine is limited to 3000 rpm in neutral is, that is about when the second fuel pump kicks in, and the supercharger is about to make full boost.
Now, if that happens with no load on the engine, it will quickly exceed its maximum rpm, with all the associated problems that can cause, torque converter exploding, pistons getting scared of the dark, etc,etc ....
