Default factory tint

Do the 1998-2003 XJ come with factory tint?

If so, which pieces of glass are tinted?

The aftermarket tint that is on the vehicle currently is very well done, but a real pain when backing up at any time and even cornering at night.

Hello Plums,
AFAIK, no X308 came as standard with factory tint....could be wrong of course ;o]
Cars like Rolls and Bentley etc. use what is know as Sundym glass which automaticly dims according to light strength.
I know what you with a lot of tints these days are rediculkously dark and we have laws here which govern how dark a tint can be.
I had my '98 Sovereign tinted 5 years ago and went for Bolese....which is far superior to a lot of tints.
It's a greenish sort of tint which darkens according to light.....quite expensive but worth every cent in this climate ;o)
Had all glass tinted except the front screen.
Cost $650AUD five years ago and has been across the Nullabor twice and is still in perfect condition and keeps the interior nice and cool....certainly helps the a/c ;o]

My VdP has the factory limo tint. All the back glass is tinted, so the royals can have some privacy while eating their Grey Poupon. It's not a very dark tint though.

The front side windows have a lighter tint than the rear windows. I was hoping to find that the front windows are factory tint and the rear half of the car received the limo tint treatment. If is the case, then removing the aftermarket stuff from the back would leave an overall lighter tint, but still some tint rather than clear.

Anyone one else have some input?

This is what my car looked like before I got the windows tinted --

By looking through the windows in the second picture, there appears to be a very light tint. It is best seen at the base of the windshield in the tree trunk.

Would that be a fair assessment?

Yes, that's the way I think it is -- very light tint, and it seemed to be the same on all the windows unlike most of the newer cars that have factory tint on the rear windows that's much darker than the front.
