fail safe issues
Hi guys and thanks for helping me with my prior issues. I bought my car 2 years ago with 36k miles on it. A month after I bought it, it stalled on me on the street and wouldn't go into gear, just reverse. My mechanic rebuilt the transmission for $3823 because of code 1722 and everything was fine.
About a year later, the 'fail safe engine mode' light started coming on and going off. I went to the dealership to get a scan and theyvcouldn't fix the problem after 2 scans and $165 bucks. Extensive road testing is necessary to further diagnose they said and came up with these codes: p1732, b1238, u1261, p1571 and p1260. Eventually the car started stalling after 55mph and eventually would shut off. One day it didn't start at all. According to my own mechanic, my engine took out 2 heads because a plastic piece in the timing chain wasnt replaced by a metal one. He says it should have been a recall, but I ended up paying $7600 to my mechanic, non-dealer as they wanted $10k.
I now have 44k miles on it and the 'fail safe engine mode' has been going on and off still. My mechanic says it's a sensor that needs to be replaced for around $2300 dollars but I'm a lil broke now and he said there's no problem driving without said sensor.
I finally ran my own OBD tool and pulled these 2 codes myself: p1111 and p1643. I know it's a mess but any help would be appreciated and thanks again for reading!
