Default Finally got the hitch on.

Spent a solid 2 hours but the R now has the hitch on. Next comes wiring. Not really that hard save one bolt which goes into the tow hook bracket that took nearly an hour to figure out.

Just have to ask, what are you towing with your XJR?

Utility trailer, camper, maybe a sailboat if I get one that won;t fit on the roof rack and if needed a TVR (on a dolly of course). If it has 4 wheels IMO it first must function as a car.

Now I just need to find a growler hitch receiver cover. Will check the local DEALERSHIP tomorrow.

I'm so jealous! I've been keeping an eye out for a detachable tow bar/ hitch for my XJ8 for months now and they are like hens teeth! The only one around on ebay and is the tow ball only not the rest of the kit. I missed one a few months back but I check daily. As it is at the moment I have to borrow my Dad's MG ZT CDTi whenever I need to tow anything. S.

I've been toying with putting one on the S Type but haven't talked myself into it yet.

Ah, what'cha scared of. Would you rather drive a lesser vehicle when you need to go to get a load of mulch or the Jag?

Wiring is a PITA though I will admit. You need a power module which uses fused power from the battery instead of the 20 gauge wires going to the lights in the car. You just use that for signal. Of course I wouldn't use those compression clips they give ya if my life depended on it, besides I wouldn't think they'd fit so you'll need to cut the wires for the turns, stop and tail lights and get out the solder.

Did that today so I won't need to take the X type when I go get some hardwood flooring this week.

Besides, passing a highbrow Jaguar owner with a trailer behind your cat is priceless when their pipe hits their lap.

I have a hitch on my Lincoln LS (very similar to S-Type). The wiring looked as if it would be a real pain because of the special built-in lamp status indication system, but Draw-Tite hitch company sells plug in wiring harness jumpers. There is also the auxiliary power supply that is required but it's not too bad since these cars have the battery in the trunk.

The wiring system is called a Draw-Tite T connector, they don't make any for Jaguars but if you wanted to do this on an S-Type I would bet that the Lincoln LS and the S-Type use the same connector (but perhaps not because Jaguars usually have reverse fog lamps and the Lincoln LS does not)

I have had the boot full of deodorized cow manure once or twice.

Anything that causes pipes to drop and caps to fly off must be good.

I saw a Bentley Arnage pulling a caravan once, that was a laugh! I hate caravans but it made me smile to see that just because of the badge it didn't put the guy off towing with it.
When I EVENTUALLY get the right tow bar for my XJ8 I intend on using it to pull a car trailer with my Herald on or one of the Brisca Heritage Stock Cars my Dad is involved with. These cars can pull a lot of weight.

I took the X350 out of the search because I couldn't find a hitch for it Stateside. Looks like it has no trouble what so ever with a 5k trailer.

Thumbs up Finally Got One!!!!

At Last!! I finally got a detachable towbar/hitch for my 2001 XJ8!! I've been searching for so long (nearly a year) and it just popped up on ebay today so like a Jaguar stalking it's prey I pounced! It is a used one but it comes from EuroJag who is one of the UKs premier suppliers and I got it at a good price. It comes with the bag to put the tow ball in when not in use and all the electrics.

Only one problem though...

Anyone got fitting instructions?

Ta-S.

Stu,
I have a parts car with a hitch, but being in Canada, I didn't mention it, as it's too far.
Also the ball shape is different in UK I think?
Anyway, I told some pix of the mounting if it helps.
The wiring is a mess, but seems to be spliced into the tail lights.
The mount bolts on the left are 3 vertical bolts, while the left side has 2 vertical and 1 horizontal.
I hope this helps,
Rob
