Fitting a ZF6HP26 in an X308 - Thoughts?
All ..
Looking for thoughts and, with a massive amount of luck, any experiences of fitting a ZF6HP26 (found int the X350) in an X308. I have two space X308s, both otherwise in good condition save the 5HP24 usual bust up.
I'll keep this thread updated with my own endeavours too.

Sub'd out of curiousity. Don't have any particularly useful advice to give however. Wonder if you'd need to swap the x350 J-gate over too, or accept that the manual mode won't get you to 5th?
If you're swapping the trans, maybe you could get a used 4.2 and associated electronics, keep everything nice and bundled, and swap those into a x308 shell?
I think some people have swapped 4.2's into x308's, so I'd start looking there and look at issues they had with making the 4.2 work with their old transmission, and kind of work backwards from those issues to what you'd run into getting a 4.0 mated to the 6 speed box.

I've wondered the same thing a time or two. I read once on here that it's been done before but, when I performed a search for the thread.... Nothing...
I wouldn't think just swapping guts into the 5HP from a 6HP will work. That extra gear and the internal TCM of the 6HP along with the completely different pan simply will not fit into the 5HP.

4.2 in X308 is easy enough, as long as you're keeping the tranny.
Curious as to how the electronics interface to the engine ECM.
I've discovered a 6HP26 in my breaker pile from a BMW X5, so it's a start. Next is the ECM, so once I'm there, I'll update the post.
I've found a Russian guy here on the forum who's decoded the ECM and can generate images, dropped him a line and await a reply. I suspect I'll need a new ECM image to accommodate the 6HP.
