Exclamation Intermittant Alarm lockout

1998 XJ8 Vanden Plas: When turning the car off the stereo speakers will pop and the indicator by the shifter begins to blink. Occasionally the alarm will sound.
Using the key in the door/ ignition and locking/ unlocking with the fob produces no results. To clear the battery must be disconnected for several minutes.
When it happens pushing the key in to the barrel further produces beeping and blinking dash lights. Is there a fix, is this a transponder coil issue or are there other switches on the assembly? Please help.

Hopefully this will be moved to the correct forum.

It may well be that the car thinks it is not in Park. (Which would mean a problem with shifter cable, or some such.)

Thanks for replying. What is the correct forum? I will move it if I can. I tried that early on in troubleshooting. It did not recreate or change the issue. The only event that seems to effect the way it alarms is when I wiggle or push on the key.
