Default Locking issues results in car break in and wheel locking nut key stolen - 3 questions

Hi there,
I got in my car this morning to find the glove box open, it wasn't for another 20mins i realised my sunglasses and small change had been stolen from the armrest and the penny dropped - some one had been in the car over night. Strangely they knew to look in the small pull down cubby hole under the ignition which is not easily spotted.

Q1: Over the last few weeks the car has developed a central locking issue, where it locks and unlocks itself 4 or 5 times when pressing the key fob buttons just once. This is the same for lock and unlock. What could cause this electrical fault and how can i fix it.

Q2: This issue either caused me to leave the car unlocked for an opportunist thief, or they broke in. How easy is it to force, unlock the xkr coupés from the outside? I am hoping it is due to electrical fault not break in. Appears alarm was not activated.

Q3: of most concern they took the wheel locking nut socket. Seeing as I have 20" Montreal alloys, it would be most inconvenient to have them removed. Can i source a replacement socket from Jaguar for me to get the nuts off and replace with a new set?

Any help much appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the break in.

Q1: one possible cause of the symptoms you describe is microswitch(es) in the door latch are on the way out.

Q3: provided the locking wheel nuts are the originals, a Jaguar Dealer can lookup the locking wheel nut key number on the Dealer Direct Warranty system. All they need is your VIN. You may want to rethink where to source this and replacement locking wheel nuts when you find out the cost from Jaguar.

+1 what Graham suggested about th door microswitch. They can cause all manner of flakey behavior and are a common failure.

Regarding the stolen wheel locks. I once had someone make three attempts to steal the wheels off my Volvo. They were custom wheels. But these guys took two wheels left the car on phone books came back that night tried to steal the third wheel and the next morning tried to break into the apartment to steal the fourth wheel. And this is after saw them trying to steal the wheels from my apartment Window. I even pulled out a gun but did not shoot but I made a lot of racket. These guys still came back. So, I'd just assume that they're going to come back for your wheels. Make sure they don't get them.

I am trying to fix my door lock proble at the mo. I do have some spare micro switches and have replace both sides, and got a new battery today. Unfortunately still have the problem of not locking with the remote. I will be going on a long drive tomorrow see if the battery needs a proper charge.

Try to lock the drivers door from the inside while open and then (after the cycle of locking and unlocking) reach over and open the passenger side and lock it then shut it. You can do this all from drivers seat and then exit the vehicle.

How would one go about removing the electronic locking all together and rely on the drivers door key and manually letting in passengers and locking up after they exit?

Have you thought about the locks on the boot/trunk and the bonnet/hood? Of the two I would suspect the hood/bonnet. Perhaps they tried to force their way in there first?

If I were you I would take the car in today to a specialist and get the OEM locking nuts off and get them replaced with a brand new set of non Jaguar locking wheel nuts. There are plenty of specialists who will do this for you - just google one close to you. This way if the thieves come back, their socket will be useless to them and as a bonus you will have upgraded locking nuts.

And as a FYI even though it is too late, the locking wheel nut socket adaptor has the code number stamped on it - its worth taking a note of this.
