I hesitated , and it's gone .. Gosh ,I'm so mad at my self ! Did this situation ever happen to any of you ? Now I'm back to square one, looking at ads .

Yep.. a lot before I got my current X308.. even this one I was half expecting to be gone before I got a chance to visit the next weekend after my wife found it..

Most of the ones we saw were around £1,800 - £2,500 and this one with just a couple of scuffs (found out parking aid had packed up since) was just £1,200.

I knocked him down £100 for the tensioners which I need to do :-)

But prior to getting this one we progressed quite a few cars around the £1,800 mark.. all vanishing literally just before we got to them..

It was frustrating to hell to keep calling what we viewed as maybe the perfect car only to find out it had gone.

Its the way it goes.. you can always find what you want when you aren't looking, and when looking you build up your hopes only for all the advertised ones to either have issues, or vanish before you get to them :-)

You will find another one.. it just doesn't feel like it when you have just missed what you felt was the perfect one for you..

The " Experts " always tell you to never buy the first car you see, so you done right!

Thank you for the reply . It's so hard to find a well maintained 2003 XJR at a fair price!
Found an XJR 100 on the Autotrader and the " salesman " told me he would entertain offers over 25 k ! I love the word " entertain " it means " scamming uneducated buyers !

Sounds like that guy is the guy selling that one posted elsewhere (or, is hoping to buy it himself and flip it to ya). I got lucky in that I stumbled into mine, which appears to be relatively decently maintained but no paper trail in the box. Took a chance, and I haven't been disappointed. But I don't see too many other unmolested ones out there for sale these days. The "cheap" ones on e-bay, I don't trust.. Have faith, it'll surface!

If you hesitated, it may not have been the right car for you.

I have seen cars that on paper and specifications wise were
better than the one that I have. In person, the one I have
was always better.

Talking Don't fret, another will come along!

Yep, same here... I passed on the first X300 XJR I was veeeery close to buying, and then there was even a second one I got very excited about and had someone in another state drop by to check it out.

They "got away". But that was good news as the one I eventually bought was lower mileage and better condition all around, as well a color combo I ended up preferring.

My theory on things like this is, if "on a lark" you found the very thing you were looking for, the odds are that it isn't as rare as you think and another will come around. This is true for more than just cars.

And my mother agrees with the post above, basically saying "if it were meant to be...."

In the case of "non classic, non collectible" Jaguars and similar luxury cars, this is especially true. These cars were high cost cars whose original buyers often maintained them at the dealership and didn't put high mileage on them, then sold them years later at hugely depreciated values. So I find examples of relatively low mileage (40-80k) X300 and X308 Jaguars in good shape listed not infrequently.

Sure, if one is looking for a specific year, color, etc that will narrow the field, but time is your friend here. Just wait for the right one to come along. Until these cars become collectible, if ever, they are just going to get cheaper

If I were in the market for an X308, the 2003 XJR would be the year I'd personally target as well ... or maybe a Super V8, dunno

.
