Fuel pump replaced at 70k miles.
Hello all, according to the records the previous owner of my car provided, the fuel pump was replaced at 70k miles. The car has now been run for a little over 30k more, (14 years since) should I be worried about replacing it soon?
Fuel pumps in my experience tend to go with lack of use as opposed to mileage or age. I’ve never had to replace one on any of my previous X308s and they were all 100k+ mileage cars. My current car has had the pumps done by a previous owner, but they’ve botched the job and I’m going to have to pull it all apart again to repair the damaged fuel lines and sort out the purge system.
I got the fuel pumps replaced when I got my XJR. I'd found the secondary pump that only the supercharged cars have was seized. I'd shorted the relay terminals in the boot to check for the sound of the pumps running & noticed the second pump didn't run. Because of the 6hrs labour the garage quoted on swapping a pump I got both down while the tank was out.
As said above pumps tend to fail from lack of use & as the second pump only kicks in above 4k rpm (I think it's 4k anyway) it doesn't get used in normal driving, so for it's own good i give mine a prod on regular occasions.

Word of advice, do not go below a 1/4 tank of gas as the pump relies on the fuel to keep it cool. If you do go empty with it, don’t fill it up right off the highway without letting it cool down for a few hours. Why? If the pump was ran low on fuel, the cooling effect it gave the pump was gone and the pump is now hot. If you fill it with cold fuel, it could shock it and render the pump dead. I’ve encountered that a lot. I know that sounds silly.
