Hello,

Bad news on my 1998 XJR.
Last time I started it, after a minute or so in P, I heard some rattles (pinions noise). It disappears when switching to R or D, but also present in N.
Today, I drove the car, and, same problem.
Some light noises can anso be heard at low speed in D...
Sounds like it's the end
What do you think?

I had the same noise on my 98' XJR about 3 months ago. I lucked out and had access to a 2002 with 35K miles so I didn't have much down time. Out of curiosity, I pulled the pan and saw some small roller bearings. I had pictures on this phone but I must've deleted them. I still have the old trans and planned to find out the culprit but, that's another day when I get more time available. There's plenty of transmissions available thru car-parts.com if your in the states. They're good transmissions so there's plenty of them out there and reasonable too.
