Thumbs up Has anybody got this?

Does your car unlock when taking the ignition key out of the ignition switch?
Have started this thread, did not want to hijack niglemay's thread "Weird unlocking issue - any ideas anyone?"and take away any responses to his question.
Mine does not and I can't find any reference to it in any handbook or Customer Introduction Video or even on Her Majesty The Queens 2001 Jaguar Daimler Majestic V8 LWB Video
So it would interesting to know if it's supposed to happen or if it's an optional extra.
Thanks.
Enjoy you Jaguar's
Andy

Well, I bought the car when it was 9 months old, and up until last week it always unlocked when I removed the key from the ignition. Now, once I remove the key and the car stays locked, nothing happens if I pull the driver's door handle, I have to use the remote to open it. In my original thread, someone suggested pushing down the door knob when the door was open and the key was out of the ignition, he suggested that all four doors should then lock and two seconds later open again. I tried it and nothing happened. I suspect it's the driver door module at fault.

Does the unlock button on the dash work? Have you left the car for a period for the battery to drain? On electrical oddities a freshly charged battery and a hard reset bring things back on-line. Failing that it's a component fault, there's a couple of things in the driver door lock mech to check before suspecting the module, all of which will need checking with the door card off.

I have 'drive-away' locking ENABLED but all my X300 and X308 sedans always needed to have the interior door latch pulled to unlock the doors.

I don't know if 'Unlock upon ignition key remove' is a 'Dealer Config' enable/disable in the 'Convenience Feature' selection.

I've had three different X308's from three different years and I've never known any to unlock when the key is removed, as bob says it may be a unique programming feature.

That makes sence Bob,hope that helps "nigelmay" with his problem.
Like I say I've never heard of that option before,I've learned something new there.

Andy

If it is a dealer programmable feature, it's stopped working. I've done the usal hard reset and so on. The only other thing for me to say is that now, when I remove the key and try to open the door with the handle, nothing happens. I have to use the remote, or, to use the dash switch, reinsert the key and turn it to position 2. Something has gone belly up.

Okay, so, if this is programmable, what Software is required?

I'm asking this, as I am wonder Ing if that is why my autofolding mirrors stippen working.

Can we use the standard IDS or JTIS PR what ever it is called and where is it accessed?

PDU (old and obsolete), WDS or IDS can be used to configure Dealer Options.

The 'Setup and Configuration' tab is chosen and there you will find Dealer Options.
Dropdown menu will list all the available choices to 'ENABLE/DISABLE'.

Since the North American cars don't have DEADLOCKING we might not have all the same options in common?

Is it possible that the hard reset makes the car forget the dealer programmable features, and restore them to default?

No, i've done hard resets many times over the years and it's never been an issue. Given that the interior door handles are inoperative when I take the key out of the ignition and the car stays locks, it's all pointing towards something having thrown a wobbler. Thanks for all the useful suggestions, I will sort it eventually.

The door handles operate the doors by cables, or a rod in the case of the exterior handle. Even if the battery was totally disconnected you'd still be able to open a locked door. Are you pulling the handle as far back as it goes?

I've now discovered that if I remove the key and the car stays locked, it will unlock if I reach across and use the passenger door handle. I can then open the driver's door as normal using the handle, so I'm narrowing the problem down to something in the driver's door. Once I have a bit of time I will take the door card off and have a look. It's probably something very simple but I don't think it's electrical because by using the remote or the passenger door handle, all four locks open as normal.
