Default Good place to sort suspension parts

New Jag owner, 2001 XJ8 VP. Drove it home after purchasing (800 miles) and noticed severe rattling under car on bumpy roads. Runs great on smooth roads. Nothing noticebly loose upon visual inspection. Car has 93k. I guess I need to look at suspension parts. Rattles all up and down the car. Where should I be buying parts? Any known culprits I should check first?

I think the first step would be to get the car on an overhead lift and have a thorough inspection by a competent mechanic, often times "severe rattling" can be as simple as a loose exhaust system.

Once the problems have been diagnosed and the items needed determined, post again here and you can be directed to the best sources for those parts.

It is usually best to go with OEM parts, but sometimes they can be just a little too expensive and there is an aftermarket replacement that is just as good.......again, that is where the knowledge on this forum is so useful.

Congrats on your recent purchase, love the XJ8s in white.....especially a VDP!

Front upper damper mounts. ( MEYLE from Parts Geek at under $30 each + shipping)

Rear upper damper mounts and spring isolators. Rock Auto has MOOG or KYB spring isolators.

I get my rear upper damper mounts from the Jaguar dealer.
Lower rear damper 'spherical-joints' (Deeza MB-G606 bushing or equivalent)

CATS is optional but I don't remember the MY it was introduced.

There will be a wire harness to the front dampers. (and rear but you cannot see them until the dampers are removed)

If the dampers have an electrical connector on them, you have CATS.

I think the only VDPs with Computer Adaptive Technology Suspension (CATS) were the later supercharged versions, pretty sure your 2001 VDP has the non adjusting suspension, with the comfort shocks.

Look at the top shock mounting plates under the hood, if they look like the picture below, it is the standard suspension, if they have a black, plastic, coned-shaped cover with an electrical connection wire coming from them, they are CATS.

Also, is the Bilstiens the way to go here? Regular, or the green body sports?

Rock Auto has SPRING ISOLATORS (big donut) in KYB and MOOG brands the last time I looked. (I just looked Nov 07 2021 and they are OUT OF STOCK)
Part number for the large spring isolator MMD3565AA

Parts Geek has them for $32.58 Part Number: W0133-1623019

The damper bushes (isolators) are CAC949465 and CAC949350 (one of each for each damper)

Parts Geek has the damper bushes (2" and 2.75" diameter upper rear)
Part Number: W0133-1634181 $12.58 each
Part Number: W0133-1632002 $20.58 each

Ok. So, I ordered the front and rear Bilstiens, and the 2 front upper shock plates from Rockauto. I ordered the 2 donut spring isolators from Raleigh Jag. Am I missing anything?

The new rear Bilsteins should come with the correct bushes so forget about the damper bushes (isolators) CAC949465 and CAC949350.

I just ALWAYS replace the spring isolators because you are ALREADY THERE!!!

The front damper mounts 'crumble' so I replace them when that happens.

Fronts are extremely easy, 20 minutes per side. Upper shock plates from Rock Auto. Bilstein comfort shocks.......I think Rock Auto has them now too at decent prices

The rears are a little more difficult. Once again Bilstein comfort shocks for the VDP, Make sure you replace the upper donuts
