Harmon Kardon Hummmm?

Hello all. Tried searching forum but must not have put the keywords in just right because had no luck finding an answer in the search results that was specific enough. Tried "rear deck speaker", "Harmon Kardon", and "subwoofer". Not much luck with any of those so here goes.
Just bought a 1997 XJR with the Harmon Kardon system in it. Seems decent enough for factory system, except the speaker in the back deck is fluttering when there is any bass at all. Need to replace it, that much I am sure of.
1) So, can anyone tell me the size the speaker is? I am aware it is a 2 ohm dual coil (dvc) speaker and it appears to be a 6x9" variety. Can anyone give me more details?
2) Also, can anyone tell me how to remove the speaker? Looks like should be able to remove the speaker grill cover then access the screws holding in the speaker but not sure if this is correct. Step by step would be helpful if anyone has the time.
Thanks everyone.
David

I'm not familier with this speaker it is different than my XK. But me not wanting to shy away from a challange. If you cannot see and screw's on the grille cover then it is a friction fit. In my XK I can just pull up and the grille will come off. You should be able to pry this off using a couple of putty knives. I would get a 6" and a 1". Place the 6" flat on the rear deck as close to the grille as you can. Then use the smaller to get under the grille. What you are doing is prying against the wide blade so you wont damage the deck board because the wide blade is protecting it. If you need more leverage between the two knives you can us a finishing nail between them. When the grille pops off you should see the screws. The next problem will be can you get to the screws with a small enought screw driver and not hit the rear glass. If you can't Milwaukee Tool makes a 90 degree attachment for your drill, official name is
(Offsett Drive Adapter 48-32-2100) that in most all cases will allow you to get the screws out. This is a great tool to have regardless.
I bet your sorry you asked now aren't you!

Hey Daddyo007. Not sorry I asked at all. Thank you very much for your response. I did finally figure it out. Had to take the lower back seat out, then pull the upper seat cushion forward. These steps were just to remove the parcel shelf cover. Then I was able to get to the screws that mount the speaker. ONe heck of a procedure.
Now that I have figured out how to get to the speaker, I am in need of specifications on the speaker itself. I have searched for the numbers that are on the speaker but have had no luck finding the specifications. I have found an "exact" oem replacement but would prefer to replace with something a little more contemporary so searching for the speaker info (resistance mainly). Am thinking of going back to two seperate rear deck speakers rather than one dual voice coil speaker, assuming I can match the resistance.
Thanks again Daddyo007.

Have you tried contacting Harmon Kardon direct. Also you my try an independant custom stereo shop in your area. I would look for one who does dealer work for custom upgrades. Your local domestic dealers are usuall the ones who may upgrade new cars.
