Has anyone else experienced "Wash Down"?
Had my tensioners upgraded two months ago on my '01 VDP, so you can imagine my frustration when going to start my baby the starter sounded more like a sewing machine than the starter. That's usually a sign of the timing chain letting go. Anticipating a confrontation with my shop for the probable catastrophic damage, I instead get the news that it was 'wash down". They advised that, although rare, he has only seen it happen to Jags. My guy described it as fuel washing the oil from the cylinders causing it to lose compression. The fix was to remove the plugs and pour small amounts of oil into each cylinder to restore the compression seal.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, can I expect this to become a recurring problem?

There is lots of info on here, type in " bore wash " into search at the top of the page. Basically, to avoid it occurring again, just wait for the dash to show some engine temp on the gauge above the blue section, before shutting down.

We all had to start somewhere, the more you use the forums, the more familiar you will become with it.
We are a friendly bunch on here, with a common interest, so if you are new to the marque/model there is a wealth of knowledge on here, that is willingly and freely shared.
Not unique to Jags by any means- I had an infinity that would do it. The solution as already mentioned is to never run the engine for short periods of time.
Just experienced it last weekend. Took 3 days to get over... Though i didn't remove the plugs in the end. Instead I held the key a while until the old banger started and ran on 3 or 4 cylinders and then fired on all of them.
