Default Hats off to the pros who contribute here

Being unfamiliar with Jags I came here a while back seeking advice which was freely given. Often from knowledgeable pros who are able to command a respectable wage for their knowledge but cough it up here for free in the interest of fellow enthusiasts, folks getting the run around by others or simply the lost, as I was.

Dealerships take quite a beating around here and mostly deservedly so.
When administering said beatings we need to remember the fellow setting prices and selling services at the dealer AIN'T the guy spinning wrenches.

Your dealer service writer is a salesman, don't forget it. Few have ever had grease under their fingernails. His most important function, as far as you and the mechanic are concerned, is to interpret a customer's(our)often unintelligible concerns into something coherent for the mechanic to begin diagnostics. I'll guess most mechanics like having that buffer between themselves and customers who can be exasperating, especially armed with a LITTLE internet knowledge and a preconceived diagnosis of their own. A few NEED this buffer as they have poor(charitably put) people skills but are very good at their craft.

The fellows who contribute here ARE the friendly type we should all appreciate and avoid painting with the same brush as "dealers".

Anyway, in this case shoot the messenger and don't blast the wrench men.

Len,
I'm sorry(couldn't resist).
You've obviously earned your stripes but must admit are the exception.
Seems I am also painting with a broad brush. My humble apologies, sir.

Ross, thanks for the very kind words on the forum, much appreciated by all I'm sure.

Although there is a fair amount of, shall we say, negativity towards the dealers in general, some can be quite good.....all down to personnel and people skills I guess.

We try not to be too hard on the dealers here, and the obvious alternative sord isn't in use here, period.

Unfortunately with different people, different dealers, differing personnel and customers there's sometimes a lot of variable to take into account.

Thanks again for the kind words...........we do try
