Default Bling Confusion

Hi to all, wondering if other XJ8 owners could give me an opinion as to whether or not adding stainless (or chrome) rings to the instrument panel and gear shift are an enhancement or just plain tacky ? I realise that it is probably a matter of personal choice but would appreciate an opinion from someone other than myself. Alan Murgatroyd

For me the interior seems fine as is. It is tempting to do some upgrades in that area, but I have decided that the exterior (Larger wheels..16 to 18s) might be just enough to feel the bling thing. Some other upgrades are mesh grill inserts, I like that too. Another thought would be to upgrade engine issues (see forum threads) like tensioners and cooling system stuff. I know not blingy, but good place to through your cash. Just my thoughts Alan.

Alan,

Welcome. Don't forget to check in with the Intros section of the forum!

Rings… Not if they're plastic. Then again, this is coming from a guy who just put a tacky license plate surround on the back plate. Looks cheesy as all heck, but I love it, and it's my car so who cares? But…

…it's better to first invest in the transmission fluid and filter!

cheers,
Scott

Personally, I am for originality, yet at the same time I retrofitted side markers to my car when it didn't originally have any. Its you car. If you like them then its all good!

Heavens to Murgatroyd ! Chrome rings on an XJ ! Just kidding, you must be tired of hearing that. I have seen the rings and they look pretty nice, but couldn't justify the price.

As if it would be the only plastic posing as something else in these cars?
I've seen them on other cars and usually like them. I've also seen a few instrument clusters damaged by amateur installations of these.
Do what suits your own tastes, why should you care what I think?
