Default Headlights auto-on works intermittently ....

So, I got this inconsistent issue, where I have the headlights switch set to Auto 100% of the time, relying on the light sensor to turn the headlight ON... Well, lately it's not exactly doing what its supposed to.. Sometimes it works, sometimes I'm forced to turn headlight ON manually. I highly suspect a faulty/corroded/loose connector somewhere between the sensor and the relay. Has anybody taken the dashboard out, and located where the light sensor wires go?
Thanks!

Maybe clean the sensor on the back of the rear view mirror, with a q-tip and glass cleaner, just a drop mind. Also a failure point on this system is the stalk wiring - you'll have to remove the airbag first, and to do this you have to disconnect the battery and leave the car for 10 mins. Then turn the wheel and undo each of the two retaining bolts on the back of the wheel, they're torx headed. lift the airbag out, there's a wire lead to it you'll have to disconnect - then its a case of inspecting the left hand side wires from the lights stalk to the wheel boss connector, look for frayed or split wires.

I thought the light sensor is embedded on top of the dashboard, right in the middle close to the windshield... There is a tinted "dome" that's sticks out. Isn't that the sensor? This is on a 99VDP..

The dome you mention is called a solar sensor linked to the climate control according to the drivers handbook (6-1), it should not be covered. The sensor for the automatic lights is on the back of the rear view mirror, again according to the drivers handbook (3-23).
