Default Headlining woes

Hi All

In common with many of our cars, my headlining is in need to replacement. It's currently held up with drawing pins and lets the interior down big time.

Has anyone tried one of these?

Can anyone suggest any alternatives?

Also I need some of the little black "Christmas tree" that retain the movement sensors to the roof on each side - any suggestions as to a supplier?

Cheers

Glen.

It's a bit of a way from you and he needs the car for two days, but Keith baggs did a superb job on my headlining. He does the sun visors and the centre light cluster as well, it's now better than new. K BAGGS TRIMMING | CAR INTERIOR AND HOOD SPECIALISTS

try this. buy three cans of aquanet hair spray and get a 3" paint roller. coat in hairspray and work it into headliner. it works.. the headliner can be done by bending it in yes, but if you can time it with a front windshield replacement you will be very happy..

I used 1/4 inch staples; has held perfectly for two years.

I just replaced my headliner to my Mercedes C280 last month. I am going to do my XJR next month. You really need to do it right for a permanent fix. I got 2 yards of cloth headliner material with 1/8" foam backing for $15/yard from Joann's fabrics, 2 cans of hot temperature resistant spray adhesive from the same place. You will need to remove the headliner board by bending it out of a door. Mercedes recommends you remove the front passenger door and Jaguar recommends you remove the rear glass, which no way I was going to do. Bending the board is good enough. Even if you got a fold crease, it does not matter for the new material will cover over the crease. Use a stiff bush to brush off the old deteriorated foam material and vacuum prior to spraying the adhesive.

See youtube video for removing a headliner on the XJ8.

It's really not that big of a deal to have an auto glass specialist remove the rear glass and reinstall when you're done. Cost me $150 total for removal and replace; gave me a chance to repair some minor rust at the lower offside corner and ensure the seal was ok.

Then it took an hour to remove the headliner, another $150 to have a shop recover with matching foam-backed cloth and high strength adhesive, and 45 minutes to put back in.

Of course, you end up having to take most of the interior out in any case; I've done the job without removing the backing card on a couple of cars but it has to be the messiest and most dusty job I've ever done in a car, flat on your back. But, in removing the interior, give you a good chance to really clean the nooks and crannies.

Great Video, thanks XJR.

I have decided to resore my old headlining using one of these kits. My cat is LWB so I'm hoping to get it in and out through one of the rear doors. I will let you know how I get on in a couple of weeks. Wish me luck.........
