hekp! car wont start after driving throught water
it was raining so heavily in NJ shore area the past long weekend and I went through water in a flood street back like only 10 feel long. Water is not that deep but deep enough to touch the under tray of the car. the car was able to start once next day then it stopped. dashboard lights up and engine is try to crank up but it just wont fire the engine?
now, we have narrowed it down to fuel pump related issue. the mechanic is able to fire up the engine by adding fuel to the calibrator.
either the pump itself and the electric wiring now.
but heaving raining or deep water really kill the fuel pumps?
XJR has 2 pumps if I remember correctly?

Hitting the intake with a shot of fuel is a good first try at diagnosis (although the Jag manuals will you warn you to NEVER do so!), but I would sure follow that with a measurement of the fuel pressure upon first power on (the primary pump should pulse on for about 3 seconds) the run for cranking. The fuel pressure test port is on the fuel rail and is a little hard to see, but is clearly shown in the manual. If "your guy" has no X-308 manual, he eithe rneed sot get one, or you need to get a new "guy".
The second fuel pump's relay can be jumpered for diagnosis to see if it will run.

The first fuel pump is the primary, and the primary works all the time, the secondary only engages when the SC reaches the request for more fuel. Then the ECU sends a signal to engage it. You can get the secondary pump to work first through the system, but a fail signal from the primary will be needed first, P1232. So if there's no fail signal, the secondary will not become the primary temporarily to at least be able to start the car to get it to a repair shop.
So it would be a great help if you can provide us with some codes if any. Like sparkenzap says, if that mechanic doesn't have a manual, he best get one or you need to get another mechanic.

If you open your fuel filler lid, is it full of water?? I suspect the water drain next to the fuel cap is clogged and then water went inside your fuel tank. (I've seen this many times on 308's) I'd have him do a pressure check first then like everyone's suggesting. If there's pressure, have the tank drained, install new fuel filter and of course fresh gas.
