Started doing my diff output bearings, the nearside (left hand side) swapped out easily ( apart from that stupid circlip) , but when I took the Offside (right hand) bearing out, it was fitted to the shaft the opposite way round???


Nearside bearing was fitted to the shaft with the `O` ring at the flange side, so that is how I refitted it.


Offside bearing was fitted to the shaft with the `O` ring fitted to the spline side???


The exploded diagram that Grange Jaguar gave me at the time of ordering the parts seems to show the `O` ring to the flange side, but the JTIS did not mention or show which way round the bearing should fit.


Anybody got any info on this?

I've posted this before.

There is only one pictorial/tutorial that seems to exist on the internet
for the X308 diff. Lots for the earlier ones.

Maybe it should be saved somewhere in case it disappears.

Cheers for that link plums, weirdly the offside bearing was fitted back to front! even weirder, there is no mention in the service history of any work on the diff???


Will take some photos to show the correct orientation of the bearing for posterity on the forum.

 

There seldom is if the work was DIY or sent out on
a cash job.

If the bearing was backwards and the seal in the wrong
place ... maybe someone has been there before?

And maybe the reason you are digging into the job now.
