Unhappy Help!! Drivers door multi switch

When I recently crashed my 2000 xj8, the drivers door was jammed wide open. Neighbours covered the door opening to prevent water ingress during rain, but left door itself wide. Sure enough it rained, and now the window multi switch doesn't work. The mirror buttons don't work at all, and of the 4 window buttons, 3 don't work, and one works but opens the wrong window. Back left button opens drivers door window. The other in door buttons all work correctly. Having changed the multi switch, the problem remains, which would indicate the original switch is not the problem. Would anyone know if there are other things that could have been damaged to cause this phenomenon. I.e. are there maybe relays or similar in the door, or elsewhere that could have been affected by the rain water. Checked fuse but seems to be ok. Need help on this one, as it's got me beat at the moment!!

I would try a computer hard reset. Disconnect the negative lead to the battery and
touch it to the positive terminal. It won't spark since there is nothing on the negative
battery post to complete the circuit. Also if the battery isn't fully charged, a lot of
strange things happen.

Thanks. Getting the car back tomorrow after full repaint. Will try it then, and let you know.

If you got lucky, the reset will solve the problem.
However, I am pretty sure that disconnecting the switch-pack (which you did to change it out) does not require a reset.

If it indeed does not solve the problem, I should concentrate on the control box fitted in the door-panel.
You will need to peel off the door liner to reach it, just follow the wires for its location.
Water might have entered the box (bad) or its connectors (lucky).
Once disconnected, this one for sure needs a hard reset, otherwise all strange things happen, such as rear windows opening if you push the front closed.

Ty Eric, will defo bear that in mind. The switch was disconnected by repairer as door was so badly bent, he had to take it off to straighten it. It may well be that disconnection that caused the prob. Time will tell I guess.

Yippee !! Hard reset worked a treat. Windows all back to normal, Other lecky probs solved. So pleased. Thank you to those who offered advice and helped Now just need to replace aerial, and see to reverse alarm failure. Bumper sensors seem to be ok, can hear them clicking if I get down close to them, so suspect module may be dodgy, that or a relay maybe, if there is one for this item.
The original prob was probably caused as door was taken off and this left the interior light on, flatting the battery. Mender jump started the car but it left battery with only a very low charge. Still, al sorted now with you folks timely help. Thank you all.

That is always good news.
I guess the door removal left the control box disconnected, hence the need for the hard reset.
Now post some pictures in the picture thread, so we see the baby involved .
