Default help me out please...98 xjr

Got a small problem with my 98 xjr... 117,000 miles had it for 20,000 miles and one year...no mechanical problems at all till now...

my car is very slow to warm up according to the temp gauge. Now that it has gotten cooler, it is very noticeable. The temp guage only makes it to the middle of the dial if I let the car sit and idle for about 15 mins...once i start driving, the cold ambient air takes the guage down toward the blue....if I run the heat, it goes down even further and faster...

Do I have a stuck thermostat? or what? A couple nights ago, the temp guage dropped all the way into the blue cuasing my restricted performance light to come on for the first time since Ive had this car... Parking it and cycling the key caused it to return to normal

Im thinking of replacing the thermostat....what do you guys suggest...? can I trust a local independent to change my Tstat?

Thanks in advance

Yes, change the thermostat. It is an easy job for any shop, at least on the XJ8.

A bit tougher on an XJR... I think the blower has to come off to do the job. Correct if I'm wrong someone...

WRONG! Very simple - 15 minute job on XJR! Been there, done that!

If the housing must be replaced, then the job is tougher in the XJR than the XJ8. Thermostat is an easy job.
