Default Hi from North Yorkshire

Hi All
Forgive me but I am new to this and am looking for advice and guidence.
I have a 1998, XJ8, X308, LWB and am having issues with a nonfunctioning screen wash system.
The motor is working as it has been tested off the car but i cant find the appropriate fuse to check.
Is anyone able to offer any advice or point me in the direction of any prevous posts on this subject please?
Many thank in anticipation
Pat

Afternoon and welcome,

According to the vehicle care handbook I've got it's probably fuse 7 (30amp) in the smaller of the two fuseboxes under the bonnet, as that's labelled 'powerwash'.

I assume you can't hear or feel the pump working on the car? as I know there's a one-way valve somewhere that's known to block up or fail.

Welcome Pat, we hope you enjoy yourself here and if you can't find something, well you already know to ask. There is also a How To section at the top of each forum with solutions other members have posted. But for this that Hooli is relating to, at the top of this Forum is Handbook Download, post #24... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-66381/page2/
I tried the download link at the beginning, but it has transitioned to more modern models. There are handbooks on ebay for purchase or at British automotive shows and/or flea markets.

I just removed what looked like a giant nasty gooey snot from my reservoir (kinda wished I'd taken a pic). I pulled out the pump and up it popped and it was long, about 10" after removing it, the fluid flowed fine. I had to break down and air flush the whole system because some of the goo got up to the check ball at the transition to the wiper.

The stuff they put into anti-freeze...I guess 20 plus years will cause some goo.
Oh wait, you have probably changed the fluids in everything but the reservoir.
I admit that is not something I would change much either.

Thank you for thae advice, it's much appreciated. I have tested the pump off the vehicle and it works fine, so i'm thinking its wiring or switch maybe?

Hi,
Yes i've checked the "powerwash" fuse 7 (30amp) in the small fusebox and that is intact. this model doesnt have the headlamp wash feature but ive been advised that this is the correct fuse for the screen wash pump.
Thanks for coming back to me.
Pat

Thanks for coming back to me with that really helpful info, I've never had a car with so many fuseboxes!
The fuse is intact which would suggest to me that its a wiring or stalk switch fault, happy days!

Thumbs up Screen washer pump not working

Hi All
Just want to say a big thank you to everyone who came back to me with advice etc.
The good news is that it is now fixed.
After a careful re-read of the fuse box lid in the boot (see pic) and the use of a newly purchased 12V fuse tester (£9.99, ebay) i found that fuse F3, left hand engine bay fusebox (see pic) was blown, which turned out to be the culprit!
Happy days
Ive attached a couple of pictures to possibly help out others in the future.
Thank again
Pat

That's great news and yes we know there are a lot of places
to look when a situation like yours occurs. It is just PART of
the many reasons we adore our cars.

Well done for working that one out, I can't see anything in the F3 description that'd make me check that one.
