how do I want to adjust the tps on my 98 xjr?
While looking at some maintenance and ways to improve some odds and ends, I 've often come across the tip on adjusting the tps under the accelerator. I can't find exactly which way I should be adjusting it though. To maximize acceleration and speed up downshift, do I want to screw it clockwise to get it close to the ground as possible or unscrew it counterclockwise to bring it up closer to the accelerator? Tia
TPS under the accelerator? If you mean under the pedal, that's the kickdown switch that causes the transmission to downshift under hard acceleration. If the transmission does downshift when the 'pedal is to the metal' it's working correctly. If not mess with it until it does, I have never had need to.
The TPS is part of the throttle body and is strictly hands off for us amateurs.

The only reason you would adjust your TPS is if you have had a throttle body rebuild and it needs calibrating. This is a one off job, and if you adjust in the future you risk inciting the dreaded limp home mode.
