Default How many years have you had your car?

How many years have you had your XJ, and what year is your car?

For me, I have a 2000, and I have had it for 7 years.

I voted the one to two year category, but technically, I am at about 51 weeks. As my signature shows, it's a 99 XJR and I have already put on approximately 23,300 miles and counting.

Bought my XJR new in January 1999. Still looks, runs, even smells like new at 137K miles. It's taken us to Sand Diego, New England, Key West, Alaska, and most points in between (frequently at prolonged triple-digit speeds) with nary a breakdown or hint of a problem.
Most reliable, trouble-free, easy to maintain car I've ever owned. Also the fastest. Faster than my '69 Dodge 426 Hemi, faster (except top speed) than my 3000 GT VR4.
What a car!

Talking How many years

I've had my X308 for about 3 years. Overlapping with that, I had my '85 XJ6 for 13 years before I had to part with her. That was longer than my first wife.

5 years, 3 months 10 days, and probably many years to come. Easy to remember because I bought it New Years Eve of 05.

99 XJR

What a car!
Alaska?! How was the road through the middle of nowhere from Seattle to Alaska?

My car has been to Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Washington DC, NYC, Boston, Montreal, and Quebec city. People were asking me about my Texas plates in Quebec. Many people in Quebec city were coming up to my car and trying to figure out what it was. I mean lot of people, like we were driving a Ferrari. My brother and I almost felt like celebrities at stop lights. It was truly bizzare.

People in Boston & Montreal are pretty wowed by the car. I hear comments about once every other week or so.

In Houston, DC, and Dallas, hardly anyone notices my car. There are so many new S-classes, CLS and other high end cars in those places. DC has ALOT of X308s for some reason. I saw at least one every single day.

I bought mine just over 2 years ago and I love it to pieces. I took it to France and many places in Britain. Sadly at the moment the Petrol prices are £6 a gallon ($10 US) which means lengthy car journeys require a meeting with the bank manager and much overtime. I do enjoy driving it though and I want to drive to Sweden and other places in Europe as I enjoy driving holidays.

I know you weren't asking me, but talk about a driving experience... I didn't take the AlCan hiway in the Jag, but I drove it with some friends back in 1981 in an Olds Toronado diesel. Even then the road was remarkably good. Even in the areas of gravel, it was in great shape and smooth sailing. That was one long drive. Salem, Oregon to Kenai, Alaska over 2600 miles. That's one long drive!

"Alaska?! How was the road through the middle of nowhere from Seattle to Alaska?"
The Alcan is all paved, virtually all four-lane, much of it safely accomodates, ahem, very high speeds. The last 100 miles before the Alaska line is pretty humpy, though. The distances are vast, and it takes a bit of foresight to plan pit stops. As mentioned, people are wowed by the car en route.
I could write a long travelogue, but suffice to say it was the drive of a lifetime in the car of a lifetime! Do it if you possibly can!
Cheers!

I bought my 01' XJ with 7k in 03' and have loved it. No major problems to speak of. I am coming up on 100k over summer and have just decided to purchase another car so that I can cut back on the XJ and keep longer. We love the car it looks fabulous. We always chuckle when we are at nice hotels or restaurants and we valet park. It alomost never fails that they keep it right up front parked next to brand new Mercedes & BMW's. 10+ years old and it still holds up. My wife says she is going to bury me in that car.

Purchased 1985 Sovereign XJ6 from the original owner Nov. 2010 in LA. drove to Los Vegas, Grand Canyon, East on route 66 and North to New Hampshire. Over 3000 miles without serious problems of any kind. Running lights blinked now and then and a water leak at the water pump which I changed once we arrived home. Great trip, Great time and Great way to get to know your Jag.

I absolutely love hearing stories like this. I keep a lot of things in my life, but infortunately for me my 1999 XJR was new to me about 2 years ago. I've only put about 12,000 miles on it, but pure bliss every time I get into it.

Now, stories like this HURT my heart a LOT! We currently have Premium Fuel going for $4.25 gallon, and it's tough for us. I cannot imagine dealing with $10. Getting a bank loan to drive across your state, not fair!
