Default Ignition coil question.

Hi All,

A local import car repair shop owner, who used to work for Jaguar, told methat for my 2000 XJ8 VDP there are Ford ignition coils that are exactly the same as the Jaguar ones at about $50less each.

Can anyone confirm this, makes a big difference if you replace all 8 of them!

Cheers,

Chris.

Default The stock coils are Denso

But, why are you replacing the coil, only the boot needs to be replaced when it gets all gunked up???

Default RE: Ignition coil question.

Hi Guys,

I am trying to solve multiplemisfire codeson several cylinders which result in the engine block light on and a "restricted performance"message coming on.

My local import car repair shop in Southern Oregonsaid, (after he had replaced the battery and several vacuum hoses for $600) thathe thought 4 of the ignition coils may need replacing and the Ford ones were cheaper.

Last week we visited family in San Jose, California (500 miles away)so I decided to take the Jag and made an appointment with the official Jaguar dealer for a Diagnostic and repairs. They said 2 coils plus thespark plugs and another hose were needed, and another $725 of my money.

After the repairs the car ran great for about 50 miles and then the same problems slowly returned. On the drive back to today Oregon on some of the steep hills I had to manually downshift to maintain a decent speed.

I have ordered a repair manual on a DVD and am thinking if I am going to keep this car I need to start doing some of the work myself or start buying lottery tickets! At $100 plus an hour in labor charges this is really starting to add up.

Thanks for the help,

Chris.
