Default Ignition cuts out after start-up

A couple of times, after I have started the car in the morning, it has then cut out, after 10 or 20s of running. When it cuts out, all the dash lights go out, the heater fan stops, and the radio goes off.

It's like I turned the key off, but I didn't.

I then re-start the car, and it runs perfectly for the rest of the drive.

My first thought is a problem with the ignition switch.

Has anyone seen this before?

I haven't personally, but it sounds like a potential ground or even power cable connection. If I were in the same boat, I'd first check the battery connections, then power stud at the right hand side of the engine bay just in front of the ECU's.

Also the ground strap from the bellhousing to the frame on the passenger side.

You may have a worn ignition switch and vibration while idling is actually shutting the car off. Try moving the key around while it is idling and see if it happens.

Thanks for the replies. Will certainly try cleaning up the connections on the ground straps and the live.

I can't reproduce the problem by jiggling the key around. Very odd!

I would have a look at the relays supplying the power to the BPM.
