Default increased engine noise

Hi, I've noticed recently that my engine has this buzzing or droning sound when I'm travelling at low speeds with the accelerator barely depressed, around 25 MPH / 1500 - 2000 RPM. I turned the climate control off and the noise is still there. It goes away when i accelerate or come to a stop and just idle. first time i heard it i thought it was a ww2 bomber flying overhead, very noticeable.

car is a 1998 XJ8 VDP with 177K kilometres on it, just had the timing chain tensoner issue fixed. oil and coolant levels are fine.

this droning sound does not impede the performance of the car in anyway. The engine temperature seems fine. At Idle with the hood up there is no noticeable noise. Seems to be coming from the engine but can't rule out the gear box. any thoughts?

I had a wheel bearing going that sounded like a helicopter was flying overhead. Can you hear it when the car is stopped ? Are you sure it was a bomber it sounded like? ;^)
