Default Install of Inter cooler radiator pusher fan

Cool man...

I thought I would post a few pics of my inter cooler fan install on my new 2000 XJR.

I bought this $29.99 12" 2.5" thin fan here: Radiator Cooling Fan

It will be wired via a relay with a manual on/off toggle controlled from the cabin. I've flipped the blades around and will be using it as a pusher fan. It moves a decent amount of air.

The 12" fits perfectly- see attached photos. I used stainless steel zip ties on the 4 mounting points and tied them through two existing holes up top which were used for holding the wiring loom in place as it travels over the radiator, and on the bottom I simply zip tied around that big cross tube. I also used a 2nd set of regular black plastic zip ties as cheap insurance to hold the fan on snugly against the radiator (using the small foam pads on contact areas)

Photos are worth more than my words, So without further adieu, to the photos:

I've got to ask, what happened to the other one with the goosed engine? You do know you'd still have it if you hadn't buggered about with it! lol! anyway, nice mod, but not required really, now a larger surface area radiator would be beneficial. Toyota 4x4 fit perfect and hold a lot more coolant. Let's hope you don't blow this one up!

That fan was only a 10" and I saw when I installed it I could have gone the next size up, so this time I did. The 12" moves more air and fits better than the 10"

Of course, but where is the fun in that?! Anyway, the problems stemmed from a leaking injector causing a hydrolock, this time I am NOT removing the injectors, just using a bottle here and there of Chevron Pro-Guard cleaner. Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained You can't let modifications scare you This car is a toy for me, so if I break it once in a while, that is part of the game. I can take my lumps, then get back on that horse and do better next time. I am an inventor, I don't expect everything I try to work, otherwise I would not be reaching far enough. The mods I'm doing on this car I feel more confident about since I cut my teeth on the last one and have learned a little. I bought this new 2000 XJR for only $8,300 in mint condition, so it didn't kill me to have killed the last motor.

This time around I'm trying out the theory of doing things that actively remove heat as it is being made. The best radiator in the world doesn't work so well when there is little or no air flow over it, so with an inter cooler fan I can elect to be cooling everything back to near ambient temp at low speeds or at a stop. I'm going to also be using a medium dose of water/meth injection at 375ml/min, as well as adding a fine mist inter cooler spray. Water misting inter cooler sprays are well proven to reduce IATs in the 20+ degree range, as long as it is a true fine mist and not spitting big droplets. The killer chillers are excellent at getting everything cold, but they turnoff at WOT, and a larger reserve of fluid gives some buffer of heat inertia, but that buffer gets used up in a short time, often less than 10 seconds per watching videos. I'm testing the theory that the best thing <next to having an $$$$ much more efficient TS> would be able to significantly increase the capacity to remove the heat continually in real time, during the entire hard run. Since I live in a warm and dry climate, using the tremendous heat absorbing qualities of water evaporation promises some large gains/reductions in this arena. Simple, yet very effective.

Since I will be making exponentially more heat at my target 15-16 psi of boost, I'm trying these removal of heat in real time devices and am expecting the following results to be in the ballpark of:

IAT reduction in degrees F:
-10 Cold air intake from mostly the fog light hole vs fender intake air which gets heated some before getting to the fender intake ($20 in parts)
-20+ Fine mist inter cooler water spray (making myself for less than $100, post to come when I've finished it)
+/-0 180 vs 195 thermostat, no IAT benefit to speak of but this gives some small and cheap heat inertia buffer ($60 shipped from Eurotoys)
-40 to 60+ Water/Meth injection at injection rate of 375ml/min (bought used for less than $300)
-70-90+ Degrees F total reduction

In theory, I could use this inter cooler radiator fan and inter cooler water mist spray and thereby cool the IATs down to somewhere around -20 below ambient before a race, kind of like a cheap mini killer chiller.

I am in interested in installing on my 2000 xjr how did you wire this. And any info on the water injection system. Thanks.

Responding to a 11 year old thread? Haven't seen much from waterdragon for a while.
