intermittent no start
I have a 98 xj8 that has an intermittent no start. It will start when it wants to then will die after a few minutes worth of running. I have changed the fuel pump the relays and everything else I can think of please give me some advice
You may have already checked this but... There are two fuses for the fuel pump (+Relay) One for startup and one slave that takes over once the car is running... I think its 5A and might be located under the hood or under the backseat.
Fuel filter ( admit it, you need it anyway ) then save some cash for that fuel pump replacement...not trying to sound fecitious but I am going through it now- aanyway- GL let the cat be with you !
You really need to diagnose the fault and not throw parts at it. That can get expensive FAST. What (if any) DTCs are logged in the ECM????
Do you still have fuel pressure when the engine dies??? Is there water in the fuel???
Sometimes you can borrow/rent or get a diagnostic tool that has a 'data-read' capability. You can 'watch' things like MAFS, ignition timing, coolant temp etc.
You need AIR, FUEL and SPARK so one of them must be missing.
