Issues with rear fuel tank lines
Ok, I'm in the process of removing fuel tank to replace the fuel pump. Everything boot side is ready, after loosing a couple fuel line disconnects trying to work them up into the space above the diff, I finally bought a set I could tie a line to. I took advantage of some warm weather today and set to removing the two lines on the back of the tank. After a couple attempts I managed to get a disconnect on the passenger side line (non fuel filter line) and got the line off with little effort, however, I'm not seeing what I expected. Line popped out smoothly, I can see the retention ring on the end of it but that's all. I expected to see a nipple extending a bit farther than the ring. I managed to contort myself and the loose line around enough and the end of the line has the appearance of a flared plumbing fitting. I've searched and I cannot find a picture for confirmation or reference, nor am I having any luck finding the line as a part. Any info from those having performed the task or those with suggestions on where to find the line or how to best repair are thanked in advance. 2001 XJ8
Once you take the tank out, there will be a large hole and you can see the end of
the lines much better. So waiting until then may be the best option.
If you have difficulty pushing the release tool, take the next larger size and put it
behind the correct size as a pusher. Or, you can make up a custom release tool from
a length of copper or pvc pipe that has been slit to let it get over the line.
