Hi there, I have a 2001 xj, the key fob has recently stopped working, I’ve changed the battery in the key fob and it is still not working
i had a go at trying to programme the car but it didn’t make any noise when in programme mode or when pressing the buttons on the fob while in programme mode,
Could this be caused by a dogey security locking module or roof antenna ?

How did you try programming it - can be a little tricky sometimes

Do you have any other remotes or just the one?

 

i tried the method where you hold the light flasher back while inserting the key and turning it to position one, then flashing the lights 4 more times, this caused the red led on the gear shifter to light up, but no beep noise

 

If done correctly there should be a chime to let you know its in programming mode

Try inserting the key, then pull the light stalk while turning to position 1, then flash 4 times

 

Cleaning the contact under the buttons helps. I get a black residue on mine. Wipe off what you can and then gently use a pencil eraser to clean to a bright surface.
My remotes quit every few years and this helps.

 

I tried this a couple weeks ago and still no chime, so I thought I’d have a go at pressing the buttons in the remotes and behold they are all working now fine ! Even a £13 ebay replacement one works. All of them have a good range as well
