Default Jaguar XJ8 4.0 V8 1998-2001~

Hey guys, im new here, and although probably a young member of this group I am a massive fan of executive saloons and big V8's. It is a possibility that my next car will be the 4.0L V8 XJ8 in the age group 1998-2001 with between 90K and 100k on the clock.
Are these a good buy?
There are some very tidy examples for around £2500k (my budgt limit) with this mileage etc and I'm just wondering what the common faults etc are or what I should expect reliability wise as I'll have enough for fuelling her thirsty engine, TAX and MOT but probably not a whole lot else.

Thanks for your help!
Jordan

Hi

If you read the forum titles carefully, you'll see you've posted in the wrong forum. You need to post in the X308 forum which covers the car you want to buy.

However, yes, the car you propose to buy is a "good buy" provided you know certain things about them, and take precautions to ensure you will not be caught out by them.

If you look in the FAQ for this section, there is a buyer's guide.

Thank you all for your replies! I am greatly appreciative of them
So what are the most common faults with this type? Particurlaly the 4.0L - I would guess the 3.2L would have similar common faults.
And I suppose none of them will be cheap to fix. I have had a few problems with Head Gaskets failing on my older cars (mainly my old old Fiat Punto) But I think that was just a weak engine realy as I didn't rag it that much. So hopefull they wont be a problem.
My boss' X5 4.6is V8 needed a head gasket and that cost him around £3k!
