The X300 uses the 4HP22. It has a transmission dip stick.

aldol, your X300 may have a 5hp24, but mine has the 4hp22. According to the Jaguar Heritage manual, all the X300's have the 4 speed. I would like the 5 speed, since it would get better mileage at cruising speeds.

Never heard of an X300 with a 5-speed autobox. It was the X308's that had the 5-speed ZF 5HP24 or Merc transmissions-the older X300's had the ZF 4HP 22 transmission with dipstick, or 4-speed GM transmission on the V12's...

Well I gave up on the X308 and moved to a X350. I found a nice 2005 VDP, black, which is my favorite car color, with tan interior. It has every option including the upgraded 19in alloys with 255/40X19 all around. It is 5 inches longer than the previous lwb on the 8L.
