just fixed my key fob!
dont know if this might help someone else but my key fob for my '98 xj8 stopped working so I was having to lock up with the key.
I took it apart today to see what was goin' on inside,after splitting the cases I lifted out the circuit board and took off the rubber button pad, the contacts under the pad were covered in black grime so I soaked everything in contact cleaner,reassembled,and its been fine ever since.

@ricasso
I did the same thing a while back and got an extended lease of life from mine, but it's starting to go again...... I read another post on here about using a "liquid" circuit board pen on the rubbery pads which you can get from Frys, so I'm going to try that next

I had a continuous problem with the key fobs from my late nineties Cadillac, and simply using the red rubber eraser from a #2 pencil will do the job. Simply clean the circuit board contact surface and the respective contact point on the rubber. This is a great way to deal with it when you are at the office and don't have the rubbing alchohol available.
