What year key fobs can be programmed to my 99 vdp? I have a pretty one from an 01 that I would like to add since my original sucks. The pad inside for unlock is very worn and takes like 20 hits to work. Anyone know how to replace/repair the contact pads? I have cleaned with alcohol twice, I just think the pad is getting seriously worn. There is almost no tension when you push the button. Thanks in advance.

 

I think you've got to stick with the early one, it should have a part number on it, ebay can be a good source to pick a replacement up - there's also a rebuild and check service for around £15 here in the UK, if you can wait a week or 2.

 

All the 1997 to 2002 XK8 and 1998 to 2003 XJ8 keyfob transmitters for North America should work fine.

Cool! I am going to give it a shot again though and make sure I have a good set of batteries. My 01 has a newer-looking keyfob and when I do searches on ebay they are saying it wont work on a 99. I think I should try the learn procedure again. I am able to get it to do some wierd stuff, but the security light by the shifter never lights up so I must be doing something wrong. If nothing else, I'm gonna try to find an older style on on ebay. Thanks for the replies and if there are any tips on the keyfob learn procedure, do tell!
