I don't know if that's miles or kilometers, but in either case it is impressive. My '03 VDP will cross 50,000 mile mark today enroute to a British Car show. Love these beasts.
Hello Ken - I have joined the ranks of local Jaguar owners. Would love to get together and take a photo of the two girls together
Roy Jorawsky
Now that is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Getting together and photographs are both absolutely in order and normally I would suggest this afternoon but we are in Singapore at the moment and won’t be back until the first week of November.
If there’s no snow on the ground, we’ll have to pick a spot for the photoshoot, otherwise I’ll get the snow tires on the XJR and we’ll come to you as something tells me that she won’t be your daily driver for the winter.
Enjoy your time in Singapore Ken and say Hi to your son from me
Looking forward to meeting up.
As far as winter usage goes - I am much too old to save anything for my “old age”. Just like the Allante unless there is a full on blizzard it will be used and appreciated.
Thanks - we will say hello and we are enjoying! We’re here for three weeks so nothing much is rushed. Our last week we’ll get up to Kuala Lumpur for a few days and relax in Mallaca for a couple days to celebrate our 52nd anniversary then back to Singapore to wrap up and head home.
We’ll have to think about a photo shoot somewhere with a couple feet of snow to show the rest of the Forum what these beasts are really made for.
The XJR hadn’t been started in almost a month so plugged in the CTEK this morning before unpacking the suitcases “to be on the safe side”. Six hours later it was off to buy some groceries and she started right up on the first turn of the key.
I should probably get the snow tires swapped over but the forecast is decent with some actual warm weather towards the end of the week so I think they can wait a bit yet. Famous last words.
I finally got these on today so we’re probably safe until next month! They should have gone on Tuesday but one was flat and needed some TLC from our local tire shop.
What brand are you using? You're getting better beading than I am getting with Grote's Ceramic.
Meguiar’s Gold Class Carnauba Liquid…
Between waxing, she’s washed with Maguiar’s “Deep Crystal” car wash soap (the inexpensive pink stuff) and a California Duster keeps the dust off.
I’m still a fan of the look you get with a good carnauba wax, particularly now that the liquid ones are as good as the paste and it doesn’t take a whole day as it used to with the old tinned waxed. It did, however, take some getting used to applying the liquid wax to the whole car before buffing instead of doing a panel at a a time to avoid getting tennis elbow.
I apply it by hand using their applicator pad, buff it off by hand with a clean microfibre cloth and then buff it by hand a second time with a new clean microfibre cloth.
Victoria Wax is probably a “better” wax but she is a daily driver and it’s unavailable here. It’s also much more expensive and I live in the “nothing to do so I’ll wax the car camp” as it’s a task I enjoy and I don’t feel guilty about waxing her even if she doesn’t really need it.
Ken, this is related to your long and illustrious thread only because it is Jag-suffering related. Apologies for using a bit of your bandwidth for the short tale, but it seemed like a good place::
I was getting ice cream yesterday in a Washington, DC suburb with some music/band/jam buddies, who I'd taken for their first ride in my '03 Quartz grey VDP, when a pristine 1998 XJR in metallic BRG came through the drive in window. I went over and talked with the gent while he waited for his treat. He said he'd had the car since new and now has a bit over 200,000 miles on it! He said it was on its second engine. I looked at him and asked "timing chains?" and he sort of groaned and nodded yes!
I might try and get the last of the errands done today and stay a bit closer to home tomorrow which looks like a shovel the sidewalks and driveways three times day.
Ken, you really need to move to Vancouver Island….
Gregory, That was from this morning. I have had to shovel twice since and anticipate once more this evening.
All in all however, it’s still not as futile as trying to shovel rain.
The temperature has been hanging around at about -10 which with little wind is just about perfect - easy to dress for and move around in but cold enough that the snow is a light powder and not that heavy west coast heart attack slush.
