Lambda sensors
Hi,
Does anyone know if I can use a universal lambda sensor on the upstream of my 1998 XJ8, I believe it only has the 2 sensors not 4 as it changed in 1999.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum amarcd,
I've moved your question from UK & Eire Region to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

I don't know the specifics of the models sent to the Isle of Man, but I do THINK that all 308s had 4 sensors. The 4.0 literAJ26 engine had non wideband sensors in all positions, so theoretically you could use universals.
The electrical guide shows such things. Part of JTIS, free download and I expect also on JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource
That'll show whether 2 or 4 and also whether all 4 are non-wideband or what.
There are at least two very different meanings of "universal", sadly. One means "fits all" (they don't) and another really means wideband.
It'll be vital to fit exactly the right kind and of course not to have swapped the one for the already-working bank!
