Default Looking at an 01 XJR

Hey guys,

I have been looking for a new toy/project, something unique. Around me an 01 XJR came up for $2000 with ~120k on it. Engine replaced 8k ago by the dealer. However, the car doesn't run. Said to have a fuel system code and a body control module code. With that said and known, is this something to walk away from?

Looks to be pretty clean overall. Belonged to the late husband of the person selling.

Wanted to get some thoughts. I am a DIYer, but wondering if this could be a huge can of worms not worth opening.

You might want to get a jag-specific code reader such as iCarsoft and check everything out but it is going to end as a guess and risk.

I'd walk quite a long way away from that one.

If the car hasn't been driven for a few months there's a good chance it needs fuel pumps replaced. If you are equipped to do the work yourself and the interior and exterior are good it's probably worth buying a high end code reader as suggested.

Thanks guys. The body and interior look really good. But I think I am going to pass at this time.

I will look into a good reader. I have a Mercedes code reader, should probably sell that one since I don't have an MB anymore .

I do most of my own work and maintenance. And this would be no different.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone.

I'd be interested knocking off about $1500 from the asking price. Then I could sell the radio and a few little pieces off and sell it to the junk man if things went sideways and walk away easy. It can be so many things and you're buying someone else's problem.
