Looking at a 99 XJ8L
Looking at a 99 XJ8L that has 150k miles
after a test drive a couple of quick questions:
I noticed a rattle near the rear maybe in the trunk that was intermittent
Couldn't tell wear it was coming from is this normal?
Seat switch is missing from the drivers side. There are many replacements on ebay for 12.00-15.00 is this all I need to make it work?
How is the transmission in these cars? I have been told these are the same as the ones in the late 90-early 2000 BMW that are prone to failure..
Do the XJR X308 wheels fit on the XJ8L?
Thanks for your time I'm a BMW guy. I never had a British car just trying to gain some insight.

There are many issues with a 99 with that many miles. Yes, the transmission is the same 5HP24, has it been rebuilt? If so, it may have the upgraded A drum. What about the chain tensioners, are the the metal body or old plastic?
Rattles are likely bushings worn, and with a car that age it would be wise to stay away unless you have the vehicle history and know what has been replaced and when.
No telling what the seat switch means. If it's that cheap it should have been replaced already. Might be an indication that the seat module is faulty.

Thanks! it was owned by a independent Jaguar mechanic. Sometimes that can be bad or sometimes good. I guess I'm nervous and would really prefer a XJR X308
The first time I drove it drove great reminded me of my old LS400
I like everything about it except the wheels. Does not seem to be many options for these cars in the aftermarket in the wheel department that don't look gaudy.

I found this recall but I would imagine everyone would have new transmissions if its still available.
