Default Looking to buy 2000 XJ8 - help a newbie!!

I'm in SoCal - looking to buy but every bit of info I get leads to more questions - maybe y'all can help.

1 - I see a surprising number of XJ8 with under 100K but already with rebuilt transmission. What's that about?

2 - Some folks say don't touch the XJ8 - that the late XJ6 was much better (and cheaper to work on) But others say the exact opposite.

This car would be used for a daily driver and an occasional 200-300 mile jaunt

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

I had a 95 XJ6 and it was completely trouble free. Brakes and oil changes can be done at any shop. I also think that a straight 6 is a much smoother motor than a V8 plus all of the bugs were gone from the 6's in the later years.

i bought a 00 xjr with 90k, tensioners have been replaced so its good to go for a while in my opinion. Even if something goes wrong its an easy fix
