Looking To Join The Club Part II Advice And Input Needed Needed
Hi All, A few months back I posted about a 2006 XJ8L that I was contemplating as a treat myself purchase. It would be driven only occasionally and I am keeping my daily driver. Things have stretched out due to misc. circumstances and now of course the present situation. The owner got the car in for a check up at the shop of my choice. Here is basically what I was told. There were several codes that were cleared and all turned out ok. The main reason is the car has been sitting in storage for sometime. There was a slight shimmy at higher speed but the mechanic felt strongly that the wheels needed balancing and noted missing balance weights.
Front Thrust arms are showing wear but not to the point of replacing.
Needs wheel alignment
Oil level was two quarts over, needs to be drained to normal level.
Transmission needs servicing as he noticed a slightly slow shifting. Pan is original and harness adapter "Has a slight weep"
Thermostat and expansion tank has been changed but coolant housing looks original.
Drive belt, not timing belt, is showing some cracking.
All suspension joint boots are worn but no sign of play detected.
Spark plugs good, Ignition coil is original
Needs a brake flush.
No signs of any issues with the air suspension
All coolant hoses good.
No engine leaks were found, no structural damage.
Brakes 30% front and 45% rear remaining.
The mechanic felt that the transmission service, brake flush, wheel balancing, and coolant housing should be done just after if and when I buy the car. He gave me an estimate of just under three grand.
A couple of answers to my original post suggested if there were some significant issues I should ask for a price concession. He wants 8k and the car has 80k on it. It is in above excellent condition cosmetically. The only issue I noted was a cracked rear tail light. I would appreciate any comments on this report. I would love to get this car but don't want a money pit. For what it's worth the mechanic did state that 2006 was one of the best years for overall reliability. Thanks.
