Default Looking at XJ8s - What should I look for?

I'm looking at maybe getting a 2000-2003 XJ8. Either a standard or L model. Maybe a Vanden Plas if I find one cheap enough.

Obviously I want a car with a comprehensive history and I know about the Forward drum in the Tranny, Cam Chain Tensioners and the Nicosil blocks. I want to find a car that has had these issues addressed but is there anything else I should be looking out for?

Other than standard wear and tear is there anything I should expect to fail in a car of this vintage and with between 80 and 110K miles?

Thanks

Eric

Default XJ8 vs VDP

I would look for a 2003 or newer, ive been down this road and unless you are not going to leave the town you live in. Another problem in the 1999 is the ignition switch it just stops working, i was out of town 400 miles and called the Jag dealer to find help and he informed me they all do this, all the time ( thanks for the help a h ) why did you not tell me this when i come in for my 1k annual massage? I have never questioned my dealer and give him free rein to do all PM's. (He's fired)
I have the VDP and will replace this with another VDP 2003 or newer.

Default Looking at XJR

I just came out to look at a 2001 XJR. Anthracite/charcoal. All the goodies including the lame Nav. 81k. Fully serviced. 2 panels repaired/ refinished. Paint is good but has several deep scratches. Inferior clean. New Pirelli tires on chrome wheels. Anything in particular I should be looking for? Everything works and seems to be in good shape.

There's a detailed checklist on appraising a potential X308 purchase.

I bought an '03 based on help from members n this forum. I now have 77,777 (yes, that's right! It turned to that number as I rolled into the driveway earlier today) and have done nothing more than routine maintenance. I've put almost 15k miles in it since April...I don't baby it and have no fear driving cross-country.
