Default Need specs for timing chain tensioner job on 98 xjr supercharger

Hey guys I'm a new first time jaguar owner as of Sunday the 3rd of March. I am going to get the timing chain tensioners and related parts changed for new metal tensioners and parts. I will not be going to Jaguar and paying $3500 for this but I am getting it done by a reputable mechanic. What I need so I can give it to him is the timing marks and the Ft- Lb torque for the bolts, especially the cam bolts. I am trying to get this done ASAP so I dont stand the chance of the plastic tensioners breaking on me and destroying my engine. Could someone help me please.

There is quite a bit of info on this topic if you search for it. Btw, if you are having the mechanic do all four of the tensioners (which I recommend) and not just the top secondaries, then you will not need to remove the cam shafts.

In the how to section of the forums you will find this: x308.DIY.primary-and-secondary-tensioner-replacement.pdf

Yours is an XJR so you will not need to "wind down" the vvt units. Also, did you inspect your tensioners? They might have been done already.

Thanks jagscott. I had not check them but I spoke to the three year previous owner and he said he never had them done. I will have to see if I can contact the owner before him who owned the car for 11 years- if at all possible.

It would be easier just to pull the valve cover and look. The driver side valve cover is the easiest to remove. You will then be able to see the secondary tensioner, inspect it for cracks along its body and if you get a good flash light you can usually look at the guides below it to see if they have cracks too.

If you do driver side. be careful of the sensor hose top front, water tubes to reservoir and the dip stick. you dont have to remove water hose if careful , but sensor hose and dip stick need to be disconnected. The dip stick just twist and lift carefully as not to disengauge from below.
Good luck
