New here, question about 99 XJ8L
Hello all,
My question mostly has to do about value. Long story short my dad is buying a new vehicle, and is disappointed in the $4,000 trade in the dealer is offering on his 99 XJ8L 97,000 miles. (New engine put in by dealer at 40,000 miles due to a vibration issue- I'll have to find out what year it was installed) 5 minutes of research on this forum has told me there was a problem with tensioners. Car is clean.
Dad says to me "Try to sell it online, maybe there is someone out there looking for this car who will pay $10,000 for it".
Now I don't think $10,000 is going to happen. But do these cars ever sell for over book value? Like a grand or two over? Or should he just take the 4?
IMO the brand new Jags are ugly!!! This series seems classic.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi:
I paid $3500 earlier this summer for my '98 with the same amount of miles and in spectacular shape. I did, then, have to do the tensioners adding to my cost. I may have even overpaid a bit; but I was happy with the deal I made and the car is great.
You may get more if the right buyer comes along, but it's an awfully soft market in most places in the US it seems.
Best of luck!

At 97,000 miles, the transmission may not have long to live. If there is ample documentation of the great maintenance the car should be worth more or at least
sell more easily. If the paint and interior are in great shape that helps. The replacement engine might still have nikasil cylinders and plastic tensioners. If you
have good proof those are not an issue, you might get a little over $5,000.
