Default No a/c, cooling fan inoperative, overheating...

Its summer time and everyone is using there a/c. I'm having some trouble. the car sitting idle with traffic the coolant temp rises up from 206 to 221. The top cooling fan isn't working at all. I check the A/c codes and i get 23. I check the ac pressure and my God it is high. No one has touched the air con system or ever put refrigerant. I have a spare set of cooling fans so if anyone can tell me what to do...

It’s most likely a failed fan motor but let’s take a further look before swapping out the fan assembly.

First thing I would do is unplug both fans and look for possible burnt connectors. If that looks fine, follow the wiring harness from the fan connectors you just inspected down to the left hand side where it goes to the bulky fan relay. If those wires are touching the drive belt or are chaffing against each other, that needs to get repaired first. I have seen where the fan wiring harness was loose at one point, drive belt rubbed thru the wiring harness and someone simply put electrical tape over damaged area and called it a day and later on it became an issue. The fan harness is supposed to be zip tied to the fan housing.

If the top cooling fan is inoperative and everything looks good, quickest thing to do is swap in the spare fan assembly. When you start the engine, turn the A/C on right away since it commands the fans on pretty quick.

If you end up swapping out the fans and the top fan still doesn’t work, check the fuses on the left hand side by the abs module. Yes, I know you should start by checking fuses, however if a fuse blew, it’s most likely a fan going bad anyways.
