No Tail Light, centre console dark, front pilot light....
Hi all,
All of a sudden, my 1998 X308 Sov. has a funny issue.
The Tail Lights, front parking lights, license plate lights, the center dash (heater, radio) illumination and the indicator under the temperature gauge went dark..... (my car is European, so no sidelights)
I had been working on the car, replacing my coolant pump (shattered impeller). My first thought was that I must have damaged the wiring loom in the engine compartment or something of the likes.
The fuses in the trunk look ok.
Any suggestions?
regards,
Leo

The car has also got an auto setting for the lights. That has never worked since I own the car...
The dimmer for the dashboard light also does not work.
Dodgy switch (I hope) or BPM.....
I hope to find an easy answer here!

Leo,
The auto lights are triggered by a sensor on the back of the rear view mirror. This sensor is a known issue but when it fails, the lights can still be operated from the stalk switch.
If the lights won't operate at all and the fuses check out OK, the stalk has to be a suspect.

Had a quick look at the stalk's connections. I couldn't fathom an actual switch going off. These things must have been tested just like Ikea test their chairs.
Some wires run from inside the stalk to the circuit board at the base of the stalk. The green wire came loose from it's connection. The grey wire was loose as well, that might explain why the auto-setting doesn't work. The wires are somewhat stiff, so the wire broke at the soldering connection. A flexible cable would have been better! Bad design Jaguar!
I made quick repairs and re-soldered the green wire. I'll have to remove the steering wheel to make proper repairs. Will do so next weekend.
I found the correct wiring info in the XK8 section of this forum...
Any tips on preventing the airbag exploding in my face?
