Does anyone know for sure if you change your Speedo/ odometer cluster on an 1998-2003 XJ Series, does the mileage go back to the original miles that was on the old odometer or does it start at the mileage that is on the one you are putting in. The reason I am asking is my car only has 19k miles but the display went out. The car is now out of warranty and they want over a grand to replace it. I want to buy a used one and put it in myself. If I buy one that has more miles on the odometer will it show the higher miles or will it put the miles in that are on the cars computer? Is this old school technology and it reads whatever is on the odometer. I do know that the 2002 X types have an onboard system that would have to be programmed but my thinking is the XJ's were out before that technology was introduced. Anyone know for SURE????
