Default P0730 Follow up and TCM Question

I had a couple of posts on here about a P0730 Code gearbox fault.
Well after much research here and clearing the code finally a new code pops up.
I finally decided that was in over my head and took into the Jag Dealer in Edmonton. They put in about 3 hours of diagnostics and final conclusion was the TCM has **** the bed, so for $ 505.00 I finally have a plan of action at least.
So my question for the masses are all the TCM's interchangeable from 1998 to 2003 XJ8 and Vanden Plas?
I see a few on ebay for cheap or maybe someone here on this site has one for sale that they know is in working condition.
Cheers,
RAM

The TCM like any of the modules in the system shouldbe replaced following the VCATS number. In the boot/trunk there should be a large label in the spare tire space wall. It lists the module numbers. You need to match the number used for your vehicle. The one exception is that the number ends in a letter. So if your last character is say C then you can use a module with the same number ending in c, d, e, etc. You can not go backward a, b, for instance.
The letter character denotes the firmware version.

Hi Vern
I have read that after replacing the TCM I should have the dealer reflash the mod.
Is this required or will it just relearn?
Cheers

If you get the correct one, as per the guidance in the above post - it should only take a 'hard reset' and deleting the legacy fault code.
I've got one in the shed that might do, dig out your VCATS and post the part number, someone else might have one nearer to you.
VCATS...

Hi
Had my girlfriend look for the VCATS to no avail, may have to wait til I get home in 2 weeks but was hoping to have parts waiting for me when I get home.
The jag dealer said the newest part number should be LJD2401AC00D (NLS PART), my local Jag repair shop has a used LJD2401AB that he wanted $200.00 for. I mentioned that the same ones can be had off ebay for $100.00 delivered apparently I insulted him..
So I can find these on ebay LJD2401AB and LJD2401AC are they interchangeable for my Vanden Plas?
Cheers
RAM
